Parmesan Egg in a Hole is a classic breakfast recipe that comes together so quickly and easily! Perfectly cooked eggs are nestled in crispy bread and it’s all sprinkled with as much parmesan as you’d like.
What’s in egg in a hole?
What’s the best way to make classic eggs in a hole even better? Add parmesan, of course!
- Parmesan: We like to use freshly grated parmesan because it has the best flavor and consistency. Pre-shredded parmesan also works just fine.
- Hearty Bread: Large, square pieces of white or brioche bread work best for this recipe.
- Seasonings: We like to keep it simple with just a little salt and pepper to taste. Feel free to add whatever other seasonings sound good to you.
Sunny Side Up vs Eggs Over Easy
These eggs in a hole can please both sides of the fried egg aisle! You can cook them sunny side up or if you want them over easy you can flip them and cook the egg on both sides. Just make sure the egg has cooked on the first side first, so it combines with the toast and you can flip it.

How to Store and Reheat
Here’s the deal – eggs in a hole with parmesan is best enjoyed fresh! While you can store it for later and reheat it in the air fryer or oven, the bread and egg both won’t have the same consistency.
Notes from the Test Kitchen
- Use a large cookie cutter or the top of a glass to cut a hole in the center of the bread.
- Be careful not to make the hole too large as it can cause the bread to become flimsy and fall apart.
- You can do these eggs over easy too, just make sure the egg has combined with the toast before flipping!
