This Follow You Path Cowl is a 3 button crochet cowl pattern, it’s full of texture and style, and I’m so excited to share this gorgeous pattern with you!
Do you know how it is when you have a gorgeous skein of yarn with a beautiful texture, and all you want to do is find that one pattern that will show off that unique texture? Well, that’s how I came up with the Follow Your Path Crochet Cowl free pattern.
And don’t worry, this pattern looks more complicated than it really is, and the end result is stunning.

Crocheting a buttoned cowl is a crochet scarf with buttons pattern, the only difference is the length of the cowl, it’s shorter as it wraps your neck only once and you add holes for the buttons.
You can make a crochet cowl with one button or a 3 button cowl like this crochet cowl pattern.
In the Follow Your Path Cowl pattern, the cowl is worked lengthwise and so the buttonholes are made at the last rows of the cowl.

About the Design – A Lace Arrow 3 Buttons Crochet Cowl Pattern
This lace crochet cowl pattern is worked lengthwise as a regular scarf and is closed with 3 buttons, to create a 3 button crochet cowl pattern.
That means you can crochet this cowl into a scarf, or an infinity cowl pattern and make it as long as you’d like.
The unique texture of the cowl is created using the Arrow Lace crochet stitch, which is a combination of 2 chains of 5 stitches.
For this textured crochet cowl pattern, I used the Knit Picks – Paragon Sport yarn that was generously provided to me by WeCrochet.
I recently discovered that this yarn is being discontinued, which is sad because I enjoyed working with it. So a good alternative will be the Shine Sport, this is a sport (#2) weight yarn, it is 60% Pima Cotton, 40% Modal natural beech wood fiber. The Pima cotton is soft and nice to work with, and has a beautiful stitch definition.
I would recommend using a natural fiber yarn for the best stitch definition and texture for this cowl design.

This video tutorial will show you how to crochet rows 4-7 of this cowl pattern.
Materials
– 4.0 / G mm Crochet hook (I love the Tulip Etimoand Clover hooks).
– For this pattern I used Knit Picks – Paragon Sport yarn by WeCrochet– Sport (#2) weight yarn, if this yarn is no longer available you can use Shine Sport.
Total amount of yarn needed: 150gr / 336m / 369ysd
– 2 stitch markers
– 3 x 1in (2.5 cm) diameter buttons.
Skill level – Intermediate Gauge (in double crochet) – 17 dc and 8 rows = 4 in/10 cm with 4.0mm / G hook.

PM – place marker
RS – right side
WS – wrong side

sp – space
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
SPsc – Spike Single Crochet: work sc into 2 rows below (instead of 1 row below as in regular sc).
* Work SPsc into the V part of the st (see photos in pattern).
SPsc3tog – Spike Single Crochet 3 together: hook into last skipped ch-1 2 rows below and pull up a loop, insert hook into ch-1 2 rows below of current worked st and pull up a loop, insert hook into next ch-1 2 rows below and pull up a loop. Pull yarn through all 4 loops on the hook.
* After row 4, the second loop will go into the top of SPsc3tog 2 rows below.
Finished size– Circumference: 28in (71cm), width: 8in (20cm).
Notes
- ch1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
- The stitch markers are to help you keep track of the stitch after sc3tog, and make sure you won’t lose it.
- You can make the scarf as long as you’d like, by continuing to work the repetitions.
